ABOUT ME
I'm Stephanie Kovac. Founder, Owner, President, Producer and PR Guru of Wishcraft Productions.
The question I'm most asked is how I got my start in TV. I give credit to a name few within my industry probably even remember: Leon Klinghoffer. In October 1995, the 69-year-old disabled retiree was celebrating his 36th wedding anniversary with a cruise on the Achille Lauro. He never made it home. The Jewish-American father of two was singled out when members of the Palestinian Liberation Front stormed the ship. He was shot execution-style while sitting in his wheelchair, then thrown overboard.
I was a freshman in college when the life - and tragic death - of Mr. Klinghoffer was profiled on an NBC documentary. I was so deeply affected by his story that I knew - at that very moment - what I was meant to do with my natural ability to write. To tell other people's stories. Because one life has the ability to change countless others.
My career began in local news. I spent seven years writing and producing for WTVJ and WSVN in Miami, Florida and KDFW in Dallas, Texas. In 1995, I landed my Hollywood dream job with the nationally syndicated entertainment show, Hard Copy. There, I was offered an unsurpassed level of creative expression that allowed me to hone my writing skills and perfect my interviewing ability.
In 1998, I returned to Texas to form my own production company. As a freelancer, I have had the opportunity to cover countless national news stories including the shuttle Columbia disaster and Hurricane Katrina. In addition, I have written and produced dozens of episodes of The History Channel's Gangland and Tru TV's Forensic Files.
In the past twenty-plus years, I've seen it all. Death... destruction... disaster. Life... liberty... love. Everybody has a story. Some happy. Some sad. Through it all, my own life has been enriched by the lives of so many others. It has been said if you do what you love, you never work a day in your life. I never have. For that, I owe a debt of gratitude to a man I met only on TV... a man named Leon Klinghoffer.
